Was having a conversation with an astute friend the other day & along the line he mentioned his admiration for women who wear solid colors. For a moment I was lost in thought, searching my pool of limited knowledge what he could have meant precisely by that. Of course the first thing that came to mind was primary colors (was I right though), Perhaps I was spot-on but that’s not exactly what we’re going to major on today. It occurred to me that people involuntarily react to the colors they see around them and for that reason
the shades we wear play a significant role in the expression of our personality and it also portrays the statement we’re trying to make. An important question is then raised; am I wearing the colors that represent what “I am about” per time? Let’s go through a few prominent colors and hopefully you’ll find an answer to that question.
GREEN alias the prolific
shade:
Generally known as the color of growth & wealth is
a relaxing hue; it’s the color that represents every individual on the planet
seeing that life itself is about metamorphosis. I personally think that anyone
can connect with the color green & not feel in any way out of their element
or comfort zone. Green is graciously recommended on days you want to show personal
growth or abundance of life which in other words means you can actually wear it
any day and give off the right vibe (considering we grow daily & being alive
is wealth enough)
RED alias Attention-Grabber:
Many sturdy words can be used to describe this prominent color. It’s energetic,
assertive, exciting & enthusiastic. Simply put, this is the shade that
stands you out from the crowd. On days that you’re feeling confident or daring
this will suit perfectly. Mix it up with dim accessories (you don’t need to be
any louder seeing that it’s booming enough). One more thing, if you’re not in
the mood for unwanted attention red isn’t your friend on that low-key day.
ROYAL BLUE alias Royalty:
Though it’s considered a masculine color, blue is particularly recognized as
the color of the sea & sky. It represents influence, tranquility,
sincerity, purity & spirituality. This is a shade that works perfectly on
days you’re looking out to exude your influential proclivities. It’s a hue that
screams “professionalism” hence why we see a lot of corporate wears in shades
of blue. This is your Go-to color on days you want to exude proficiency.
YELLOW alias Sunshine:
This is the color of cheerfulness. It’s bright, optimistic & like red it’s
also an attention grabber. Yellow has a positive influence on others because of
its happy go lucky vibe, It’s not a fighter thus flees from confrontation. On days you’re feeling peaceful & good
spirited by all means allow some sunshine color radiate your joy.
MAGENTA alias Roseate:
A brilliant purplish pink that
radiates an aura of hope, it gives off signs of affection and a sense of
comfort. Are you having a crush on a drop dead gorgeous bloke & you don’t
want to say anything because being too forward is not your style? Well, perhaps
you can pass an indirect/subliminal message across without having to look presumptuous
(by the way there’s no guarantee it’ll work but no harm in trying right?) Lol.
Easy Ways to Master color
Mixing
Use a color wheel to find
complimentary colors: Every color has a complimentary color and that’s simply
any two colors lying diagonally opposite each other in the color wheel. True
complimentary colors are the same distance from the center of the wheel.
1) Classic combos that work: pastels with pastels, pastels with
neutrals, pastels with jewel tones, bright and jewel tones, neutrals and bright.
2) Explore Uni-color: monochromatic fashion can be pretty cool,
different shades of the same color or similar colors almost always look good
together. You can combine the tints and shades of the same hues to get a great
harmonious outfit.
3) Find a print from one of your clothes, break it down into
its different colors and create an outfit out of that. You can rank the colors
in the print and wear the most used color for major items like dresses or
jackets and the least colors for smaller items like shoes and jewelry.
4) When in doubt of what to mix with a certain shade, use black
or white seeing that they combine seamlessly with every other color (you can
never go wrong with the superstars of neutrals)
Colors undoubtedly spark up our
outfits when infused appropriately and it also influences people’s perception
about us. Don’t be reluctant to wear the shades that represent your
personality, tendencies or mood.
Be un apologetically fabulous!
