Inspiration Monday.......Mother Teresa

 What did Mother Teresa do?

Born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu (Gonxhe means rose bud or little flower),she was born 26 August 1910at Albania and the last of her siblings. At a young age Gonxhe was fascinated by missionary work which she latter joined 1928 at age 18 . By 1929, she moved to India.

She took her first religious vow as a nun on 24 May 1931. At that time she chose to be named after Thérèse de Lisieux, the patron saint of missionaries, but because one nun in the convent had already chosen that name, She opted for the Spanish spelling of Teresa.
She took her solemn vows on 14 May 1937, while serving as a teacher at the Loreto convent school in Entally, eastern Calcutta. Teresa served there for almost twenty years and in 1944 was appointed headmistress.Although Teresa enjoyed teaching at the school, she was increasingly disturbed by the poverty surrounding her in Calcutta. The Bengal famine of 1943 brought misery and death to the city; and the outbreak of Hindu/Muslim violence in August 1946 plunged the city into despair and horror.

Reasons why we love her.
1) She dedicated her full life to missions work.
2) Mother Teresa was compassionate.
3) She was very tolerable and saw good in every body.
4)She never backed out from any of her missions; Mother Teresa rescued 37 children trapped in a front line hospital by brokering a temporary cease-fire between the Israeli army and Palestinian guerrillas.
5) She was passionate about education.
6) She cared so much about people and their needs.
7) She gave her love and life to the poorest of the poor.
8) She was famous for being good.
9) Apart from literacy, Teresa taught the children basic hygiene.
10) She was peaceful.

She continued her work with the poor for the rest of her life, leading the Missionaries of Charity until just months before her death Sept. 5, 1997. The Catholic Church has begun to move Mother Teresa along the steps toward sainthood, and she was beatified in 2003. Her official title is now Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
