Love the way you lie (My Eminem and Rihanna Ordeal)

When the duo released the song love the way you lie it hit the air waves and rocked every TV  and radio station as anticipated.
Eminem and Rihanna are two of the bestselling pop artists of the past two decades and coincidentally have each played publicly high-profiled roles on opposite ends of violent relationships. Eminem a Detroit-bred rapper, rose to stardom in the late 90s with a string of provocative albums, some in which he rapped about killing his ex-wife Kim Mathers. Rihanna was born and raised in Barbados and survived a very public assault by ex-boyfriend and fellow singer Chris Brown. Unfortunately, when the two teamed up to sing “Love the Way You Lie” to offer a critique of abusive relationships, they inadvertently glorified it.

Domestic Violence
Permit me to describe the scene of this video, should in case you haven't watched it or maybe you were carried away by the beats of the song while watching the video or just maybe you watched it to fulfill all righteousness. You see, the scene was played by a young couple(Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan) caught in the throes of a chaotic exchange of physical and verbal abuse acted in a messy home in a modest working-class house. There were clothes strewn all over the house, marked by dark grays and blues. The couple seems caught between the desire to make love or start a war. At different moments in the video, they’re gathered in a passionate embrace or hitting one another. At one point the man punches his fist through a wall. At another, it’s hard to tell if he’s making love to the woman or sexually assaulting her. The video shifts from the present to the past, replaying the seemingly alluring moments in which the couple first fell in love over drinks at a bar.

This video paints a clear picture of an abusive and violent relationship in which many can relate to, like Eminem screaming his lines, shows dominance and Rihanna just loving the way he lies shows a lady without self worth, she would take the punches because she derives pleasure in repeatedly being abused. It not suppose to be so. One who is constantly abused in her relationship may think that there is no love outside a violent relationship so she continues to live with a man who constantly beats her up, provided he apologies with sex, stuffed bear with a rose flower and an apology as shown in the video.

Such lifestyle can dampen you, kill your selfworth and image. The emotional damage you go through such as anxiety, trouble sleeping, being easily frightened or scared and feeling emotionally numb can turn you into a nag and a sick old lady. The physical damage you endure such as bruises, broken bones, trips to the hospital and series of concussion may one day kill you. Enough! you know what, trash that man he is the devil the preacher talks about and the one mummy say "never go close to".

You deserve to feel great. (Love is respect) Although it may be difficult, this is the time that you need to focus on you and your own happiness. You never did anything to cause this and you deserve to be happy and feel safe. What you went through is not who you are.Healing is a process and through it, you will remember how strong, capable and extraordinary you really are. You will have good and bad times, but every day free from abuse is another piece of yourself that you get back and, eventually, those pieces will come together.

  1. It can also lead to the death of the lady involved, just like the case of Devina Ann Chapman whose fiancé was abusive and ended up killing her. No lady deserves to be in an abusive relationship, be it physical or verbal.
